Composition

This combination enhances the efficacy of Ceftriaxone by inhibiting beta-lactamase enzymes produced by bacteria, preventing resistance and broadening its antibacterial activity.
Indications
Accutaz-AS Injection is prescribed for:
- Bacterial meningitis
- Bone and joint infections
- Community-acquired pneumonia
- Intra-abdominal infections
- Pelvic inflammatory disease
- Uncomplicated gonorrhoea
- Skin and soft tissue infections
- Bacterial septicaemia
- Urinary tract infections
It is typically administered intravenously or intramuscularly under medical supervision.
Dosage
The standard adult dosage is 1000 mg of Ceftriaxone and 125 mg of Tazobactam administered once daily or in equally divided doses twice a day.
The total daily dose should not exceed 4 g of Ceftriaxone.
Treatment duration generally ranges from 7 to 14 days, depending on the severity of the infection.
Side Effects
Common side effects include:
- Diarrhoea
- Elevated liver enzymes
- Allergic reactions
- Rash
Serious allergic reactions are rare but may involve symptoms such as swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat, or difficulty breathing. Immediate medical attention is required if these occur.
Precautions
- Allergy: Avoid if allergic to Ceftriaxone, Tazobactam, or penicillins.
- Liver Disease: Monitor liver function during treatment.
- Neonates: Not recommended for neonates ≤28 days old due to potential risk of precipitation with calcium-containing products.
